TSDR
Where you check the live status of any US application.
Trademark Status and Document Retrieval. Enter a serial or registration number to see the current status code, every document filed, and every deadline. If you own a mark, this is the page to check rather than relying on memory or email.
Why it matters to your application
TSDR is the only authoritative answer to "where is my trademark right now". Not your filing service's dashboard, not the email you half-remember receiving - the USPTO's own record. Every deadline that can cost you the mark is visible here, and it is free.
In order
- Go to tsdr.uspto.gov and enter your serial number for a pending application, or your registration number once registered.
- Read the current status code and the date beside it. That date is when the clock you are on started.
- Open the Documents tab and check the most recent outgoing letter. If an office action was issued, it is here whether or not it reached your inbox.
- Check the correspondence address on the record is one you actually read. This is the single most common reason owners miss a deadline.
How this plays out
An owner is confident nothing is outstanding because no email has arrived. TSDR shows an office action issued seven weeks earlier to an address that belonged to a web developer who left. The letter was properly sent; it simply went somewhere nobody was looking.
About tsdr
Is TSDR free to use?
Yes. It is the USPTO's own public system and requires no account.
How often should I check it?
During examination, monthly is sensible. After registration the risk shifts to renewal deadlines years apart, which is precisely the kind of thing people forget - monitoring exists because manual checking over a ten-year span does not survive contact with a busy business.
What if the status looks wrong?
TSDR reflects the official record. If it genuinely does not match what you believe happened, that is worth raising promptly rather than assuming the display is at fault.
