USPTO STATUS 612

Your request to bring the application back to life has been received

Official wording: Petition to Revive - Received.

The USPTO has logged a petition to revive your abandoned application. It has been received, not decided. There is normally nothing further to file while it is pending.

Received is not granted

This code records arrival. The petition still has to be examined, and it can be granted, refused, or returned as incomplete. Do not start describing the application as pending again, and do not resume using the ® symbol or any language implying registration, until the record moves on.

What decides it

A petition to revive turns on whether the delay in responding was unintentional and whether the petition was complete. Incompleteness is the common failure: the petition fee, a signed statement from somebody with firsthand knowledge, the response that was missed, and - where the office action carried a three-month response period and non-receipt is not claimed - an extension fee. A petition missing any of these can be refused on that basis alone.

What you should be doing meanwhile

Nothing procedural. But check that the correspondence email on the record is one you actually read, because the decision arrives there, and if the petition is refused or found incomplete there may be a short window to respond.

If it is granted

The application returns to where it was before abandonment and examination continues from that point. Expect the status to move to a revived or examination code rather than straight to approval - the underlying objection that triggered the office action still has to be dealt with.

Confirm this against your own record

Status code descriptions are administered inside USPTO systems and published wording varies slightly between sources. Your file is the authority. Enter your serial number in TSDR to see your current status, every document filed, and any live deadline.
