The USPTO has asked you a question about your suspended application
Official wording: Suspension Inquiry - Mailed.
Your application was suspended, and the examining attorney has now written to ask something about it - usually whether the reason for the suspension still applies. Unlike the suspension itself, this letter wants an answer.
Suspension is passive; a suspension inquiry is not
While an application sits suspended there is normally nothing to do. An inquiry breaks that silence: the office is asking a question, and a question that goes unanswered can abandon the application for failure to respond. This is the code that catches people who learned to ignore their suspended file.
Read the letter for your date, not an article
Response periods have changed in recent years and they differ by filing basis. The only authoritative date is the one printed on the letter in TSDR. Do not assume six months and do not rely on a date quoted by anyone, including us.
What it usually asks
Most commonly whether you are still waiting on the same thing - a prior pending application that may have registered or abandoned, or a foreign registration that may now have issued. Sometimes the examiner is checking whether you want to proceed at all. The answer is often short and factual rather than argumentative.
Check what changed while you waited
Before answering, look up whatever your file was suspended for. If a blocking application has registered, a refusal citing it is likely coming next and your answer should be written with that in mind. If it abandoned, say so - that is usually the fact that gets your application moving again.
Confirm this against your own record
Status code descriptions are administered inside USPTO systems and published wording varies slightly between sources. Your file is the authority. Enter your serial number in TSDR to see your current status, every document filed, and any live deadline.
