USPTO STATUS 688

A notice of allowance has issued

Official wording: Notice of allowance — issued

Your intent-to-use application cleared opposition. The USPTO is now waiting for proof that you are actually using the mark in commerce, and there is a deadline for providing it.

A deadline may be running. Confirm the date on your own record before you do anything else.

You are not registered yet

A notice of allowance is not a registration certificate. It means the mark is approved subject to you filing a Statement of Use showing real commercial use of the mark on the goods or services you claimed.

Six months, extendable

You have six months from the notice date to file a Statement of Use, or to request an extension. Extensions are available in six-month increments up to a total of thirty-six months, each one requiring a filing and a fee. Miss the window entirely and the application goes abandoned.

The specimen is where these fail

Most Statement of Use problems are specimen problems: a mockup instead of a real product, a logo on a website with no way to buy anything, or a specimen that shows the mark used differently from the drawing. The use has to be real and the evidence has to show it.

Do not file before the use is genuine

Filing a Statement of Use for goods you are not actually selling yet creates a much worse problem than waiting. Take an extension instead — that is exactly what extensions exist for.

Confirm this against your own record

Status code descriptions are administered inside USPTO systems and published wording varies slightly between sources. Your file is the authority. Enter your serial number in TSDR to see your current status, every document filed, and any live deadline.

Nobody tells you when someone files close to your name

The USPTO does not police your mark. What costs owners their rights is a similar filing nobody saw.
